About PENCIL
(and the human inside)
From the first time they felt their little head rub against a piece of paper, PENCIL knew their calling: to help kids express themselves. They see running for office as a way to speak for kids who might feel a little shy raising their hands or asking grown-ups hard questions.
Born and sharpened in Oregon, PENCIL loves visiting our beautiful parks and rooting for ALL our teams. Their favorite Trail Blazer is Shaedon Sharpe, and their favorite mountain is Broken Top (keeps them humble).
J. Schuberth, the animating force behind PENCIL, is a former professor who taught in PSU's University Studies Program and ran summer college courses at David Douglas HS. They are also dyslexic, have a dyslexic child, and know the life-changing power of having teachers who are trained to teach all children to read.
When not inside a pencil, they are a writer and a volunteer education advocate.
PENCIL PAC is a registered Political Action Committee with the Oregon Secretary of State.
